Reggie’s
The boars continued their winning streak going to make it three in a row, with another tough 26 to 14 win over Oakey. The Reggie’s made it hard on themselves once again with missed tackles and errors costing possession, which allowed Oakey to score the first points of the game.
After defending for a long period of time, the boars finally got some attacking territory with some go forward from ben Lovell and jack barbrooke. Adam Tribe took a scoot from dummy half and scored to put the boars in front.
The Reggie’s then got on a roll when they went back to basics, making easy metres up the field and Brad Frost went over for a try. From the next kick off, the boars went the length of the field and Jamal Woodbridge scored in the corner just before halftime to take a 14 to 4 lead.
The second half saw discipline go out the window with numerous penalties allowing Oakey to score first. Tom Fitzgerald come on and straightened the attack, breaking the line several times and crossing for a try. Ben Bland snuck over from dummy half to extend the lead even further. To Oakey’s credit they competed to the end and crossed for the final try of the match.
A Grade
With both teams getting their first win last week, this was a crucial game for both rebuilding clubs. It was a chance to go back to back and gather momentum leading into the bye.
The boars seemed sluggish from the start and Oakey capitalised out wide to post first points of the game. With the bears having all the run, they opted for a field goal 8 minutes into the game for a 7 point lead.
Once the boars got possession they were able to mount an attack and Tom Davis scored in the corner. Once they were able to string a few sets together they got Oakey on the back foot and backline play saw buster Wilson score in the corner to take the lead.
Both teams then went try for try before halftime. With Oakey striking first, followed by a brilliant individual try by Brandon McGrady. Oakey taking a 19 to 16 half time lead.
Both teams struggled to create any opportunities in attack in the second half, with a lot of errors and penalties slowing the game down.
Oakey broke the deadlock with a try, but the boars hung in and matt Gardner burst over the line to once again close the gap. The boars had Oakey defending their own line for a long period, but simple errors from dummy half and the scrum cost them attacking opportunities. Then from nowhere Oakey went the length of the field from their own half to seal the game.
Under 18’s
The young boars got back in the winner’s circle with a 46 to 10 thrashing of Oakey. The boars never took the foot of the pedal from the opening kick-off. Try scorers Josh Silcock 3, jamal Jackson, Kyle Lowe, Brenton clement, will Robinson, jaykob Barrett, Cody Jackson.
